GUWAHATI: A 65-year-old woman was killed in Guwahati’s Kalitakuchi area on Tuesday morning, September 1, after a large stone fell on the house where she was sleeping.

The incident occurred around 6:30 AM in Taltala village under Satgaon Police Station, according to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
Three others- P. Lakshmi, P. Ramanna and Damayanti Das- were also injured in the incident.
In another unfortunate incident, a landslide triggered by continuous rainfall claimed the lives of a couple and their minor daughter in Guwahati’s Mathgharia locality on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred near Lakshmi Mandir on Mathgharia Path, with a portion of the hill collapsing amid heavy rain that lashed several parts of Guwahati and its adjoining areas.
According to media reports, the deceased have been identified as Nagen Rajbongshi, his wife Sunu and their minor daughter Mina.Their son was trapped in the debris but was rescued alive following the incident.
In a notice issued on Monday, July 20, the DDMA identified several landslide prone areas across Guwahati. The DDMA advised residents to remain cautious while travelling through hilly areas of Kamrup Metropolitan district due to the possibility of further landslide incidents.
