GUWAHATI: A three-day summer camp aimed at promoting inclusive learning and holistic development for children, including those with special needs, concluded in Guwahati on Friday, July 3. The camp brought together around 90 students and offered a mix of recreational, creative and educational activities designed to encourage participation, confidence and social interaction in an inclusive setting.

The programme featured a range of activities over three days, including Zumba sessions, art and craft workshops, sports events, fruit salad making, cultural performances and an educational puppet show centred on the theme of cleanliness and hygiene. The activities were designed to help children develop physical fitness, creativity, teamwork, communication skills and healthy habits while learning through play.
The camp was organised by Shishu Sarothi, a Guwahati-based non-governmental organisation that has been working for children and persons with disabilities in Assam and the Northeast since 1987, under its Equitable Education for All project. According to the organisation, the initiative sought to create an inclusive space where children with and without disabilities could participate together in engaging and meaningful activities.
The opening day focused on Zumba dance and art and craft sessions, encouraging self-expression, creativity and motor skill development. On the second day, participants took part in fruit salad preparation and various sports activities that promoted teamwork, physical fitness and awareness about healthy eating.
The camp concluded with cultural performances followed by a puppet show presented by Aatmabh Axom Group on the theme of Swachh Bharat. Through an entertaining storyline, the performance highlighted the importance of personal hygiene, keeping surroundings clean and proper waste disposal, while also encouraging communication and cooperation among the children.
The organisers said such initiatives play an important role in promoting inclusive education by creating opportunities for children with diverse abilities to learn, interact and build confidence together. The camp also aimed to support the overall physical, social, emotional and creative development of the participants through engaging, activity-based learning.
