The incident happened in the Telem area of Dhemaji on Wednesday morning, September 2. The accused, identified as Firoz Ali, was detained by police.

After the incident, locals handed him over to the police. Officials said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

Firoz allegedly killed his wife, Sinowara Begum (33), and their three children, Naina Akhtar (13), Shakil Ali (8) and five-year-old Rizika Begum.

“We recovered the bodies from the house and sent them to Dhemaji Civil Hospital for postmortem,” said officer-in-charge of Simenchapori Police Station.

He said the incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday and that the motive behind the murders had not yet been verified.

Firoz used to work as a teacher in a private English-medium school in the locality and, according to him, his monthly income was only ₹10,000.

After killing the four family members, Firoz told locals that he was unable to provide his family with a proper life and that he killed them because he could not cope with his financial situation.

A video of his statement was later shared on social media, and police said they are verifying it.

“The deceased persons had injury marks on different parts of their bodies and the suspected weapon will be sent for forensic examination,” police said, adding that the accused had confessed to the crime.
