GUWAHATI: Priyada Gogoi, mother of Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, passed away in Guwahati in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, following a prolonged illness. She was 96.

According to family sources, Priyada Gogoi had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments for a considerable period and breathed her last at around 6:20 AM.
Her demise has triggered an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, supporters, and well-wishers across Assam. Leaders cutting across party lines expressed grief over her passing and conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved family.
According to the reports, his family members informed that her mortal remains are being taken to Selenghat near Mariani in Jorhat district, where the last rites will be performed in the presence of relatives and close family members.
Priyada Gogoi played a crucial role in supporting her son Akhil Gogoi’s political journey, especially during the Assam Assembly elections 2021. While Akhil Gogoi was imprisoned in connection with the anti-CAA protests and contested the Sivasagar constituency as an Independent candidate, she took charge of campaigning on his behalf and actively reached out to voters across the region.
Even in her later years, she remained actively involved in her son’s political struggle, travelling across constituencies, meeting voters personally, and campaigning tirelessly for his victory while also raising strong demands for his release from jail.
