GUWAHATI: Four minor girls who had gone missing from Guwahati’s Basistha area were rescued by Assam Police from Howrah in West Bengal within 24 hours of their disappearance, officials said on Tuesday, June 2.

The girls — all students of Beltola Majhipara Middle English School and residents of the Basistha-Beharbari locality — had left for school on the morning of June 1 but did not return home, raising serious concerns among their family members.
A search operation was launched immediately after the parents lodged missing person complaints at Basistha Police Station. Acting on leads gathered during the investigation, police teams traced the girls to Howrah and safely rescued them within a day.
The swift action by Assam Police brought immense relief to the families, who had been anxiously waiting for updates regarding the whereabouts of the children.
Officials confirmed that all four girls are safe. No arrests have been made till now and further investigation is underway.
