Pegu said on Wednesday, August 12, that Khandu conveyed the assurance to him over the phone and said those found guilty would be dealt with according to law.
The two leaders also discussed the resumption of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border discussions through the Joint Regional Committees. Pegu informed Khandu that the Assam Cabinet, at its meeting on Tuesday, had reconstituted the Regional Committees with new ministers and senior government officials.
“We also discussed the resumption of Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border discussions through the Joint Regional Committees,” Pegu wrote on X.
Pegu said both sides agreed on the importance of continuing dialogue in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation to resolve the remaining border issues amicably. He also appealed to people in the border areas to maintain peace, harmony and mutual respect and refrain from actions that could disturb cordial relations between the two neighbouring states.
The incident occurred on August 10, when unidentified armed men opened fire in an area along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, leaving more than a dozen people from Assam injured.
