The decision was taken at the first cabinet meeting of the new government after Sarma assumed office for a second consecutive term.

As part of the austerity measures, the cabinet also decided that no foreign-manufactured items would be procured for official government use during the six-month period. Government departments have further been instructed to avoid organising physical seminars and workshops, while official meetings and conferences through video conferencing platforms will continue.

Sarma also announced that the first Assembly session of the new government will be held on May 21, 22, 25 and 26. The session will include the oath-taking of newly elected legislators and the Governor’s customary address to the House.

The government has also recommended the name of Chandra Mohan Patowary for appointment as the Protem Speaker of the Assembly.
