In a post on X on Monday, October 12, Sarma said the rallies would seek to alert people to what he described as the Congress party’s attempts to undermine democratic institutions, oppose the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and challenge the people’s electoral mandate.
Sarma accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his party of attacking the foundations of India’s democracy. He alleged that the Congress questioned electoral outcomes when the BJP won but accepted results when they favoured the party.
“When Shri Narendra Modi Ji is elected Prime Minister, Rahul Gandhi calls it manipulation, yet his own election to Parliament and his subsequent elevation as Leader of the Opposition is beyond question,” Sarma wrote.
He also accused Rahul Gandhi of attempting to exert political pressure on the judiciary by marching to the Supreme Court after the Chief Justice of India declined a meeting.
“Constitutional institutions cannot be made answerable to a party’s electoral frustrations,” the Chief Minister said.
Sarma further alleged that the Congress was shielding illegal infiltrators by opposing the SIR process. He said the BJP’s rallies would highlight these issues across Assam.
“The people of Assam will not stay silent,” Sarma added.
