GUWAHATI: The Assam government has proposed to bar individuals convicted under any criminal law from availing benefits under government welfare schemes.

The announcement was made by Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah while presenting the Assam Budget for 2026–27 in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, July 10.
According to the Budget proposal, any person convicted of an offence under any criminal law will become ineligible to receive benefits under government welfare schemes.
The proposed measure is part of the government's broader policy initiatives announced in the Budget.
