GUWAHATI: A child from Kamrup district has been formally placed with adoptive parents from Spain in an inter-country adoption case completed under India’s legal adoption framework.

The official handover ceremony was held on Monday, August 24 at the District Commissioner’s Office in Amingaon. The adoption was facilitated by the Kamrup District Administration, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), and Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA), Boko, in coordination with the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) and the authorised foreign adoption agency in Spain.
The child was declared legally free for adoption by the Child Welfare Committee, Kamrup, on October 31, 2025. The prospective adoptive parents reserved the child’s profile on February 27, 2026, following which CARA issued the mandatory No Objection Certificate on March 27.
The formal Adoption Order was subsequently passed by the District Magistrate, Kamrup, on May 7, 2026. Necessary documents, including the child’s birth certificate and passport, were completed before the handover.
The adoption was carried out under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, as amended in 2021, and the Adoption Regulations, 2022.
During the ceremony, the adoptive parents thanked the authorities and agencies involved in facilitating the adoption process. The case marks an inter-country adoption from Kamrup, with the child now set to begin life with the adoptive family in Spain.
