GUWAHATI: A minor girl reported missing from Dadara was recovered from the Panbazar area of Guwahati early on August 24, after which five persons were arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault case.

According to police, information was received at around 5:47 am that the girl had been seen in Panbazar. The Officer-in-Charge of Dadara Outpost, along with her family members, reached the area and recovered her safely from near the Panbazar Pani Tanki.
During preliminary questioning, the girl said that she had been sexually assaulted by two persons at Rangman Grand Hotel (Homestay) in Kerakuchi, under Basistha Police Station, on the previous night.
The accused have been identified as Parmeswar Nath (19), of Lalabari, Goalpara, and Hirakjyoti Das (21), of Bongaon, Nalbari. Both have been arrested.
Two hotel staff members, Bishal Baruah (19), Bagrihati, Nalbari, and Lakshyadhar Nath (18), Krishnai, Goalpara, were also arrested in connection with the case.
Police also arrested Rekib Ali (39), of Alikash, who allegedly took the girl from Dadara to Panbazar on his scooty.
The case followed an FIR lodged at Dadara Outpost under Hajo Police Station on August 23 concerning the disappearance of the minor girl. An investigation was subsequently initiated under Section 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following the investigation and the statement of the recovered girl, Sections 6 and 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were added to the case on the order of the JMFC, Hajo, dated August 24.
The girl was medically examined and her statement was recorded before the Judicial Magistrate.
The SSP, Kamrup, along with the Additional SP (HQ) and Additional SP (Crime), is personally supervising the investigation. Further legal and forensic action is being carried out in accordance with the law.
