"The accused has been arrested and is not associated with the BJP. Road rage has no place in Assam. Anyone who indulges in such acts will face the full force of the law," Sarma said in a post on X.

The statement follows the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) by a 19-year-old man at Latasil Police Station, alleging that he was assaulted following a minor traffic dispute on the Maharaj Prithu Flyover near Guwahati Club on Sunday, July 5

According to the complaint, the incident began after the teenager allegedly overtook a vehicle driven by the accused, identified as Abhilash Dutta. The complainant alleged that Dutta physically assaulted him following the brief altercation.

A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, appears to show the accused assaulting the complainant while two bystanders look on.

Before the arrest, police had summoned Dutta and another individual for questioning, and the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident was taken into police custody.

Police have since registered a case and arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway.
