Two Assam Rifles Soldiers Killed in Suspected Militant Attack in Manipur


 

GUWAHATI: Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed after suspected militants triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on NH-202 near Nungshang Kong in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, the Eastern Command of the Indian Army stated on Tuesday, July 7.

The deceased have been identified as Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar C.M. Singh, who was driving the vehicle during the attack.

The Eastern Command of the Indian Army expressed condolences, stating that the soldiers made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and that the Army stands firmly with their families.

According to initial reports, the ambush is suspected to have been carried out by NSCN-IM militants. The investigation is ongoing.

Following the attack, security forces launched a massive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the surrounding area to track down those responsible.

The attack highlights the continuing security challenges in parts of Manipur, where armed groups remain active despite ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and search operations are continuing in the area.
