Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the flyover at 6 PM, whose foundation stone he had laid on February 1, 2024. Several public representatives and officials attended the inauguration ceremony, including MLAs Vijay Kumar Gupta, Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, Pradyut Bordoloi, Tapan Das, MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, and Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania.

Constructed at a cost of ₹376 crore, the flyover was completed within 26 months, ahead of the initially projected timeline of 30 months. The structure stretches 2.8 kilometres in length and measures 12 metres in width.

The newly opened flyover is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion across some of the city’s busiest corridors. It connects key residential and commercial areas and serves as an important route for commuters travelling towards Lokhra, Basistha, and National Highway corridors from central parts of the city. Officials also believe the project will help reduce traffic snarls around Barsapara Stadium during major cricket matches and events.

The inauguration adds to a series of flyover projects completed in Guwahati over the past few years as the Assam government pushes to modernise the city’s transport infrastructure amid rapid urbanisation and rising number of vehicles.
