Third Fuel Price Hike This Month Pushes Petrol to ₹103.01, Diesel to ₹94.39 in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Retail fuel prices witnessed another increase on Saturday, May 23, as oil marketing companies raised petrol and diesel rates by more than 90 paise per litre across the country amid surging global crude oil prices linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

In Guwahati, petrol prices climbed from ₹102.11 to ₹103.01 per litre, while diesel rates increased from ₹93.44 to ₹94.39 per litre, adding further pressure on consumers already facing rising living costs.

This marks the third fuel price revision within the month. Earlier, prices were increased by ₹3 per litre on May 15, followed by another hike of around 90 paise on May 19. With the latest revision, petrol and diesel prices have cumulatively gone up by nearly ₹4.8 per litre since May 15.

The recent hikes come as international crude oil markets continue to remain volatile due to escalating tensions in West Asia, leading to concerns over supply disruptions and rising import costs for countries dependent on crude imports.

Retail fuel prices in India had largely remained stable since April 2022, except for a one-time reduction of ₹2 per litre announced by the Centre in March 2024 ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
