GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday evening met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and briefed him on the flood situation in the state, the damage caused by the recent floods and the measures being taken for relief and rehabilitation.

During the meeting, Sarma apprised Shah of the extent of the damage and the steps being taken by the state government for relief, rehabilitation and restoration in the affected areas.
Shah acknowledged the scale of the flood damage and assured the Assam government of the Centre’s unequivocal support for rehabilitation and restoration efforts, according to the Chief Minister.
Sarma also said that Shah had remained in constant touch with the state government throughout the flood situation.
Taking to X after the meeting, Sarma said he had briefed the Union Home Minister on the “#AssamFloodResponse” along with several other matters concerning the state.
“Throughout the #AssamFloods, he remained in constant touch with us. In today’s meeting too, he acknowledged the scale of damage caused by the floods. He assured the Government of India’s unequivocal support for rehabilitation and restoration,” Sarma said.
The Chief Minister also thanked Shah for his guidance and support, saying he came away from every meeting with him “enriched by his meticulous attention to detail” and his commitment to a “secure and stable Assam”.
“Grateful, as always, for his guidance and steadfast support,” the Chief Minister added.
The meeting comes as the Assam government continues relief, rehabilitation and restoration measures in areas affected by the recent floods.
