Assam CM Orders Strict Monitoring to Prevent Rise in Prices of Essential Commodities


 

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, May 18, reviewed the price monitoring mechanism for essential commodities in the state and directed officials to take strict measures to maintain market stability and prevent any abnormal increase in prices.

During the review meeting, the Chief Minister instructed Deputy Commissioner-led District Monitoring Committees to convene meetings within the next three to four days to assess the situation and strengthen monitoring at the district level.

He also directed that retail and wholesale prices of essential commodities must be prominently displayed at all shops and wholesale outlets to ensure transparency for consumers.

The Chief Minister warned of strict action against traders found involved in abnormal pricing, stating that trade licences could also be cancelled in such cases.

To improve coordination and monitoring, Sarma further directed district administrations to hold weekly review meetings with chambers of commerce and trade bodies.

Officials were also instructed to intensify field-level monitoring to detect and prevent any unusual price escalation in markets across the state.

In addition, the Chief Minister called for the expeditious Aadhaar seeding of PM Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries to eliminate duplicity in LPG cylinder distribution and streamline the system.
