GUWAHATI: A self-harm incident involving 12 Class VII students was reported at Don Bosco HS School in Dibrugarh on September 10, following which the district administration initiated an inquiry into the matter.

The incident reportedly came to light after a Class VII student allegedly injured himself with a blade from a pencil sharpener. Subsequently, 11 other students from the same class reportedly engaged in similar acts, with some allegedly using broken stationery items such as pieces of scales.
According to an official order issued by the Dibrugarh district administration, all 12 students sustained injuries in the incident.
School authorities intervened after the incident and made arrangements for medical attention. Health officials, an Additional Deputy Commissioner and an ambulance were present on the school premises as authorities assessed the situation.
Taking cognisance of the matter, the Dibrugarh district administration has ordered a detailed inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the reports, Kabita Deka, AES and Inspector of Schools, Dibrugarh, has been appointed to conduct the inquiry following directions from the District Commissioner. She has been asked to examine the facts and circumstances of the incident and submit a detailed report to the District Commissioner within seven days of receiving the order.
The District Child Protection Officer has been directed to assist the inquiry, while the Principal of Don Bosco HS School has been instructed to cooperate with the Inspector of Schools and facilitate the investigation.
The school is also expected to arrange counselling for the students, with emphasis on their emotional well-being and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The situation at the school is currently under control, while the administration's inquiry is underway.
