GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said small tea growers with net annual agricultural income of up to ₹10 lakh will pay zero agricultural income tax, providing relief to growers across the state.

The decision is part of the government’s efforts to support Assam’s tea sector through welfare and developmental measures. Sarma said the exemption would keep small tea growers earning up to ₹10 lakh outside the agricultural income tax net.
The Assam government had proposed raising the agricultural income tax exemption threshold for small tea growers from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh in the 2026-27 Budget.
Sarma said the rationalised tax structure would support small growers, make taxation more equitable, improve compliance and strengthen revenue collection.
