GUWAHATI: The existing Social Welfare Committee of the Gaon Panchayat (GP) will also function as the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) at the GP-level for matters related to drinking water and sanitation.

The decision, taken in compliance with the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 guidelines, was approved by the State Cabinet.
The Cabinet approved the roles and responsibilities of the existing Social Welfare Committee to function as the VWSC for drinking water and sanitation-related matters.
In other decisions, the State Cabinet also approved the notification of the Assam Allied and Healthcare Council (AAHC) Rules, 2026, and the Assam District Court Employees Service Rules, 2026.
The decisions were taken at the Assam Cabinet meeting held on Sunday.
