Assam Exports 1,000 Kg of GI-Tagged Tezpur Litchi to Dubai in Major Boost for Farmers


 

GUWAHATI: Assam has achieved a significant milestone in its agricultural export journey with the shipment of 1,000 kg of Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Tezpur Litchi to Dubai.

The export marks a major step in expanding the global footprint of one of Assam's most celebrated fruits and highlights the growing international demand for the state's premium agricultural produce.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the development as a testament to the potential of Assam's farmers and the success of initiatives aimed at promoting local produce. He noted that platforms such as the Tezpur Litchi Festival have played an important role in enhancing the fruit's visibility and market reach.

"The export of Tezpur Litchi to Dubai reflects the hard work of our farmers and the state's commitment to taking Assam's finest products to global markets," the Chief Minister said. He reiterated the government's focus on empowering farmers, strengthening export networks and creating new economic opportunities through agriculture.

The shipment is expected to open up wider market access for growers, encourage an increase in cultivation of the prized fruit and contribute to the growth of the rural economy. It also reinforces Assam's efforts to position itself as a key exporter of high-quality agricultural products in international markets.

Known for its distinctive flavour, aroma and quality, Tezpur Litchi received the GI tag in recognition of its unique geographical origin and characteristics, further enhancing its appeal among consumers both in India and abroad.
