GUWAHATI: The flood death toll in Assam has climbed to 97, with four people still missing, according to the latest flood update released by the Assam government on August 6.

The cumulative flood impact, recorded from April 29 to August 6 (11:59 PM), shows that 11,84,944 people have been affected across 25 districts of the state.
According to the official data, 2,513 villages spread across 84 revenue circles have been impacted by the floods. Authorities have set up 234 relief camps, currently sheltering 76,885 people, while 1,952 relief distribution centres are operational across affected areas.
The floods have also caused extensive damage to housing infrastructure, with 4,011 houses fully damaged and 13,860 houses partially damaged. A total of 30,710 people have been evacuated from vulnerable areas.
The 25 affected districts include Goalpara, Cachar, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Biswanath, Charaideo, Nalbari, Bajali, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Baksa, Sivasagar, Darrang, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Udalguri, Golaghat, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro) and Hojai.
Floods triggered by heavy monsoon rainfall have repeatedly affected several parts of Assam over the past few months, disrupting transport, damaging infrastructure and forcing thousands of residents to take shelter in relief camps. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and carry out relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected districts.
