GUWAHATI: Train connectivity between Guwahati and Dibrugarh via Lumding and Sivasagar has been restored after the flood-affected railway section between Selenghat–Amguri–Simaluguri–Sivasagar Town was made operational from 4 pm on August 6.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the update on X, announcing that the restoration of the damaged railway stretch has paved the way for the resumption of direct train services on the route.
"Glad to share that the flood-affected railway section between Selenghat–Amguri–Simaluguri–Sivasagar Town has been restored and made operational at 4 pm today. With this, direct train services between Guwahati and Dibrugarh via Lumding and Sivasagar can now resume," the Chief Minister posted.
He also expressed gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) for restoring the crucial rail corridor.
"My sincere gratitude to Hon'ble Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji and the Rail NFR team for their relentless efforts in restoring this vital rail link between Upper Assam and the rest of the country," Sarma wrote.
Rail services in Upper Assam had been severely disrupted over the past month after relentless flooding damaged railway infrastructure across several sections. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) had cancelled, rescheduled and regulated multiple trains due to waterlogging and flood-related damage to tracks.
The restoration of the section is expected to significantly improve connectivity to Upper Assam, allowing the gradual normalisation of train operations between Guwahati and Dibrugarh via the Sivasagar route.
