GUWAHATI: The ongoing floods in Assam have taken a severe toll on livestock, with 540 animals washed away in the last 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The losses include 10 large animals, 30 small animals and 500 poultry. Overall, the floods have affected 1,38,965 animals across the state, highlighting the growing impact of the disaster on rural livelihoods and the livestock sector.
The flood situation remains critical, with over 6.53 lakh people affected across 11 districts- Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Charaideo, Kamrup, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Hojai and Kamrup (Metro).
ASDMA also reported that 10 people, including four children, lost their lives due to floods in the last 24 hours.
A total of 939 villages under 40 revenue circles remain inundated as incessant rainfall continues to swell the Brahmaputra and its tributaries.
Among the major rivers, the Disang River at Nanglamuraghat is flowing above its highest flood level, while the Burhidihing at Chenimari (Khowang), Dikhou at Sivasagar, Dhansiri (South) at Numaligarh and Kushiyara at Sribhumi (FFS) continue to flow above the danger mark.
To support those affected, district administrations have established 487 relief camps and relief distribution centres, where more than 3.13 lakh people have taken shelter.
Authorities are continuing rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts as rising river levels and persistent rainfall keep the flood situation under close watch.
