According to an ONGC official, immediate measures were taken to stop the flow of gas through the affected pipeline.
Speaking to the media at the site, an ONGC official said there was no cause for concern as the situation had been contained.
"As soon as we received information about the gas leak, we stopped it. There is nothing to worry about, as we have stopped the flow of gas in these lines," the engineer said.
He added that the remaining gas trapped inside the pipeline was being released and that the situation was expected to return to normal by the evening.
"All the residual gases have come out from the pipeline, and by evening everything shall be fine," he said.
The official further stated that the company was considering compensation for any losses suffered by affected residents as a result of the leak.
