The initiative was announced by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who called it a step towards faster and more reliable mail delivery in remote areas.
The project is being carried out in partnership with Skye Air Mobility. Forty drone routes will be operational across Assam, forming part of a larger network of 150 routes spanning Assam and Himachal Pradesh.
Scindia said the system will make mail transmission not only faster but also more trackable, particularly in regions with difficult terrain where conventional transport is slow or unreliable.
He said the initiative is part of the Postal Department's efforts to use emerging technologies to strengthen its network and extend "Dak Sewa" to remote and difficult-to-reach areas.
