GUWAHATI: The Assam government has set January 1, 2027, as the deadline for all government offices across the state to transition to a paperless e-Office system, marking a wider expansion of its digital governance initiative.

The Chief Minister’s Office announced the deadline on Wednesday, September 23, describing it as a new phase in Assam’s digital governance programme. The move is expected to make government services more transparent, efficient and citizen-centric, according to the CMO.
The e-Office platform, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), enables government offices to receive documents digitally, create and move files electronically, prepare notes and drafts, digitally sign records and track file movement.
The system is already operational across all 58 departments of the Assam Secretariat, while its implementation is being extended to selected directorates and Deputy Commissioner offices. Assam had begun expanding e-Office at the district level earlier, with the e-Office District initiative launched in 2026.
