GUWAHATI: A public holiday has been declared on October 3, the day of polling for the Silchar Municipal Corporation election.

The election to the Silchar Municipal Corporation will be held on October 3, Saturday. As per a notification issued with the approval of the Governor, all State Government offices and educational institutions within the jurisdiction of the Silchar Municipal Corporation will remain closed on the day of polling.
Financial institutions within the municipal corporation area will also remain closed on October 3 under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and the relevant notification of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The public holiday will apply only within the jurisdiction of the Silchar Municipal Corporation.
