GUWAHATI: Assam teacher Rajesh Bordoloi from Kalbari in Jorhat has been selected for the National Teachers Awards 2026, with seven teachers from the Northeast featuring among the 48 awardees announced for this year.

President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on September 5, Teachers’ Day.
The seven awardees from the Northeast are:
> Assam: Rajesh Bordoloi, Jorhat
> Arunachal Pradesh: Yaku Tame
> Manipur: Wanglembam Gobin Singh
> Mizoram: Lalnunmawii
> Nagaland: R Ronald Meru
> Sikkim: Sushma Tamang
> Tripura: Ranjan Debnath
The 48 school teachers were selected through a three-stage process at the district, state and national levels by the Department of School Education and Literacy. The awardees include 26 male and 22 female teachers from 27 States, seven Union Territories and six Central Government organisations.
The National Teachers Awards are presented annually on Teachers’ Day to recognise teachers for their contribution to improving the quality of school education and enriching the lives of their students.
Short documentaries showcasing the exemplary work of each awardee will be screened during the ceremony.
Eligible teachers were invited to submit online self-nominations for the 2026 awards from June 15 to July 20 through the Ministry of Education’s National Teachers Awards portal.
