GUWAHATI: The National Awards to Teachers of Higher Educational Institutions and Polytechnics, 2026, will recognise nine teachers from the Northeast, including Prof. Ankuran Dutta, Professor and Head of the Department of Communication and Journalism at Gauhati University.

Dutta has been selected in the category for teachers and faculty members of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and polytechnics. He is among 21 educators selected nationally in this category.
President of India Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Awards to Teachers at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on September 5, coinciding with Teachers’ Day.
Dr Pukhrambam Lilabati Devi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Dance and Music at Manipur University, is the other educator from the Northeast selected in the HEI and polytechnic category.
Assam has also secured representation in the school teachers category, with Rajesh Bordoloi of Adarsha Tribal Higher Secondary School in Jorhat selected for the award.
The selections highlight representation from the Northeast across both higher education and school teacher categories.
