GUWAHATI: Assam has secured three national honours under the National Panchayat Awards 2025 announced by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, with gram panchayats from Nagaon, Dibrugarh, and Sonitpur districts receiving recognition for achievements in rural governance and development.

According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj on Friday, May 15, the awards were announced under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) and the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP). The award distribution ceremony is scheduled to be held on June 3 in New Delhi.
Under the Clean & Green Panchayat category of DDUPSVP 2025, Jumarmur Gram Panchayat in Nagaon district, secured the joint second position and will receive an award amount of ₹37.50 lakh.
Under the Self-Sufficient Infrastructure in Panchayat category, Hoogrijan Gram Panchayat in Dibrugarh district, secured the second position and will receive ₹75 lakh.
Meanwhile, Sonitpur’s New Napam Gram Panchayat secured the first position nationally under the NDSPSVP category for Best Gram Panchayat and will receive an award amount of ₹1.50 crore.
According to the release, Jumarmur Gram Panchayat implemented decentralised solid and liquid waste management systems across all wards, established segregation and composting mechanisms, and carried out plantation drives in public spaces and along roadsides. The panchayat also ensured ODF Plus status, sanitation coverage for all households, and regular cleanliness drives with community participation.
Hoogrijan Gram Panchayat was recognised for strengthening rural infrastructure through the construction of roads, drainage systems, public buildings, and digital service facilities. The panchayat also introduced internet-enabled citizen service delivery systems and improved street lighting and connectivity.
The award for New Napam Gram Panchayat recognises overall excellence in governance, grassroots planning, service delivery, rural infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and implementation of flagship schemes.
