GUWAHATI: Barricades have been installed along the open drain in Guwahati's Jyotinagar following a recent GPlus report that highlighted the continuing danger posed by the stretch.

Earlier, GPlus had reported that nearly a year after a minor boy was tragically washed away in an open drain during flash floods on July 4, 2025, the situation in the area near Guwahati College remained largely unchanged, raising serious safety concerns among residents.

Jyotinagar, already identified as a flood-prone locality, continues to witness severe water accumulation during rains, significantly increasing the risk. Pedestrians, cyclists, and schoolchildren remain particularly vulnerable while navigating the area.

However, the core issue remains unresolved, with the drains still lacking proper covering. While barricades have been put in place as an immediate safety measure, permanent covering and improved drainage infrastructure are yet to be implemented.
