GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, September 27, reviewed preparations for the grand finale of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations, scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on November 29.

Sarma inspected the venue and took stock of the arrangements ahead of the programme, which is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
An exhibition highlighting Hazarika’s life, works and contributions to Assamese and Indian culture will be organised at the venue. The finale will also feature Assam’s rich cultural heritage and showcase Hazarika’s lasting contribution to India’s cultural landscape.
Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary B Kalyan Chakravarthy, IPR Commissioner and Secretary Padmapani Bora, Assam Bhawan Resident Commissioner Kavitha Padmanabhan, MLA Taranga Gogoi and IPR Director Manabendra Dev Ray, were present during the inspection.
Following the visit, Sarma said the state government was working to organise a tribute worthy of Hazarika’s legacy.
The year-long centenary celebrations commemorate the life and contributions of the legendary musician, whose music transcended linguistic and geographical boundaries and carried themes of humanity, social harmony, fraternity and national unity to audiences across the country.
