GUWAHATI: A video showing a birthday celebration taking place on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Flyover in Guwahati has triggered widespread criticism on social media, with citizens demanding action against those involved for allegedly violating traffic regulations and misusing public infrastructure.

The viral footage shows a red carpet laid out on the flyover, with a group of people gathering on the roadway to celebrate a birthday. The incident reportedly took place on the busy flyover, which serves as a key traffic corridor in the city.
The visuals have sparked outrage among residents, many of whom questioned how such an event was allowed to take place on a public road. Several social media users expressed concern over potential disruptions to traffic movement and the safety risks posed by holding a private celebration on a major thoroughfare.
Many citizens also called for strict action against those responsible, arguing that public roads should not be used for personal events and that traffic rules must be enforced uniformly.
Reacting to the controversy, officials from the Guwahati Traffic Police said they have taken note of the matter and will look into the incident.
"We have seen the video and will examine the matter," a traffic police official said, adding that appropriate action would be taken if any violation of traffic regulations is found.
The incident has reignited discussions on the need for stricter monitoring of public spaces and ensuring that roads and flyovers remain free from activities that could compromise public convenience and safety.
