Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the citizens of the country to save petrol and diesel and lead a very simple life amid the ongoing war across the world. He told a public meeting in Telangana that considering the global situation, Indian citizens should conserve fuel and use public transport. But the case of a BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh now seems to make a mockery of the Prime Minister’s call. Newly appointed Madhya Pradesh Textbook Corporation Chairman Shoghab Singh Thakur ignored the Prime Minister and showed his strength with a huge convoy of around 700 vehicles.
The procession of 700 vehicles from Ujjain to Bhopal created a lot of dust on the highway and caused a huge reaction among the common people. As the prime minister asked the countrymen to be frugal, the BJP leader’s show of strength led to hours-long traffic jams on the streets of Bhopal. The opposition Congress has also criticized this incident. Congress spokesperson Rahul Raj questioned whether the government rules are only for the common man. He also criticized the BJP leaders for appealing to the Chief Minister in this regard.
As the video of the vehicle went viral on social media, people’s anger reached a peak. Many users have questioned whether oil conservation is the responsibility of ordinary people. A similar video of Pisore MLA Pritam Lodhi has also gone viral, showing his convoy covering half of NH. This time BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal advised the leaders to be humble and normal but no one listened to him.
The Congress has targeted the government, saying the way BJP leader Shoghya Singh wasted fuel to increase his influence after winning the presidency shows that Narendra Modi’s call has no importance for his own party members. The opposition alleges that the government only expects sacrifice from the people. The issue is being discussed from Delhi to Haryana and some social media users have even requested the Prime Minister to resign as they believe that their party leaders are now disrespecting the Prime Minister.
What is most surprising in the entire incident is that the Madhya Pradesh Energy Minister, who is determined to use e-bikes to protect the environment and save energy, has burnt crores of rupees in oil before the Chairman of the Textbook Corporation took charge. After the controversy, BJP is now on the backfoot. The provincial president once again urged the workers and public representatives not to set a wrong example among the people. Now the question is how reasonable it is to expect the same from the common people if they do not listen to the Prime Minister.
