GUWAHATI: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for furnishing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for Assessment Year 2026–27 for taxpayers whose accounts are required to be audited under the Income-tax Act, 1961.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance on September 28, the original deadline of October 31, has been extended to November 21.
The CBDT has also extended the deadline for furnishing the tax audit report for the relevant taxpayers. The specified date for submitting the audit report, earlier set for September 30, 2026, has now been extended to October 21.
The extension applies to persons covered under Explanation 2 to Section 139(1) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, as specified in the notification.
The CBDT said a formal order/notification regarding the extension of the deadlines will be issued separately.
The revised timeline gives eligible taxpayers additional time to complete their audit-related requirements and file their income tax returns for AY 2026–27.
