According to CID, the accused allegedly duped job seekers by collecting amounts ranging from thousands to several lakhs of rupees, promising them government jobs. The racket reportedly issued forged appointment letters, fabricated government seals, and fake recruitment notices in the name of the Water Resources Department, misleading victims into believing they had secured legitimate government employment.
In this connection, CID Police Station registered Case No. 04/25 under Sections 61(2), 318(4), 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
As part of a series of sustained operations, CID Assam has arrested seven accused persons so far. The latest arrest was made on June 27, 2026, when Gunamoni Baishya was apprehended from Nalbari district.
The investigation is ongoing, and CID Assam is pursuing further leads to identify other individuals involved in the racket.
The CID has urged the public to verify the authenticity of all government recruitment notifications through official channels and warned against making any payment in exchange for government jobs.
