Alongside, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were raised by ₹1.37 per litre to ₹138.50 per litre, up from ₹137.12. This marks the fourth consecutive monthly increase in jet fuel prices, driven by firming international benchmarks.
The latest commercial LPG price revision marks the second consecutive monthly hike, following a steep increase of ₹62.50 per 19-kg cylinder on October 1. Prices had also risen by ₹9.50 on September 1, adding to the cost burden on hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments.
Meanwhile, domestic LPG prices remained unchanged, with a 14.2-kg household cylinder continuing to cost ₹942. Petrol and diesel prices, which were increased by around ₹7.50 per litre each in May, also remained unchanged.
ATF and commercial LPG prices are revised on the first day of every month, based on movements in international benchmark rates and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. Prices may vary across states due to local taxes, including Value Added Tax (VAT).
The volatility in LPG prices this year has been linked to geopolitical tensions and disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for crude oil and LPG supplies from the Middle East.
India imports roughly half of its natural gas and LPG requirements, with a significant share of its LPG shipments originating from Gulf producers that rely on the Strait of Hormuz for exports.
