In a press release issued by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Wednesday, May 6, senior party leader Girish Chodankar stated that the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly the youth, have delivered a “clear, strong and overwhelming mandate” in favour of a secular, progressive, and welfare-oriented government rooted in constitutional values.

The Congress reiterated its ideological commitment to uphold this mandate, adding that the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and the Congress Legislative Party have decided to back TVK in forming the government.

However, the party clarified that its support will be conditional. It emphasised that TVK must ensure that no “communal forces that do not believe in the Constitution of India” are part of the alliance.

Highlighting the broader vision of the partnership, the Congress said the alliance aims to revive the legacy of leaders such as K. Kamaraj and uphold the social justice ideals of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, along with the constitutional principles championed by B. R. Ambedkar.

The statement further noted that the alliance is not limited to government formation but is envisioned as a long-term partnership extending to future elections, including local body polls and parliamentary contests.

Rahul Gandhi and Vijay Thalapathy have jointly pledged to respect the people’s verdict and work towards fulfilling the aspirations of Tamil Nadu’s citizens, particularly its youth.
