GUWAHATI: Dolly Parton, the country music icon known for songs such as “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You,” has died in Nashville at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

Parton died peacefully on Tuesday at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, surrounded by loved ones, her publicist Marcel Pariseau said in a statement. Her death was also confirmed in a statement posted on her official social media handle.
“Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee,” the statement said.
It described Parton’s life as “a rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see” and said her legacy would “forever stand as an inspiration” through her music, songwriting, wit, warmth and kindness.
Parton had spoken about her health in recent years, particularly following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025.
She rose from her early beginnings in Tennessee to become one of the most celebrated figures in American music. Her career also included acting, business ventures and philanthropy.
