Acting on an intelligence tip-off, police teams launched an operation to intercept a heavy duty truck that was transporting drugs from Manipur through Assam toward other parts of the country.
Following a vehicular chase, officers successfully cornered and detained the truck in Guwahati near ISBT, DCP West Balin Deuri told the media after the late night operation. He added that the truck was not carrying any other goods.
A detailed search of the vehicle led police to uncover a concealed chamber containing around 1.5 lakh tablets packed in 15 bundles. The search also resulted in the seizure of several soap cases containing suspected heroin.
Two individuals were arrested at the scene: Abdul Qadir and Sariful Islam, both residents of Goalpara district.
Both have been taken into custody under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Further interrogation of the suspects is underway as police investigate the source of the contraband and work to identify other members involved in the interstate trafficking network operating across the region.
