Early Trends in Assam: BJP Leading in 19 Seats as Counting Gets Underway


 

GUWAHATI: The counting of votes for the high-stakes Assam Assembly elections began on Monday morning at 8 AM across the state, amid tight security and close monitoring.

As per Election Commission of India live updates till 9:30 AM, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 19 constituencies, while the Bodoland People’s Front is ahead in three seats. The Indian National Congress (INC) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)  are leading in two constituencies each, while the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) is leading in one seat.  

Elaborate security measures have been put in place by the Election Commission of India, including multi-layered deployment of central armed police forces, CCTV surveillance, and strict access protocols at counting halls. Officials confirmed that strong rooms were opened in the presence of candidates and their authorised representatives before the counting process commenced.

As counting progresses across designated centres, these initial leads offer a preliminary snapshot of the electoral contest, though trends may change with subsequent rounds.

More detailed constituency-wise updates are expected later in the day as the counting advances.
