Assam Election Results: BJP Takes Early Lead Across Upper Assam, Congress Ahead in Select Seats


 

GUWAHATI: Early trends emerging from the vote counting process across Assam point to a strong performance by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), particularly in Upper Assam, while the Congress has managed to secure leads in a handful of key constituencies.

In Dibrugarh district, BJP candidate Bimal Borah has established a lead of 4,185 votes in Tingkhong against Bipul Gogoi. The party is also ahead in Naharkatia, where Taranga Gogoi leads by 4,037 votes, and in the Dibrugarh seat, where Prasanta Phukan is currently ahead by 2,752 votes.

As far as Jorhat is concerned, Jitendra Nath Goswami of the BJP is leading by 1,056 votes. Meanwhile, Ranoj Pegu has taken the lead in Dhemaji.

The BJP continues to maintain an edge in several other constituencies, with Pulok Gohain leading in Tinsukia by 1,280 votes and Jiban Gogoi ahead in Sissibargaon by 1,734 votes. In Biswanath, Pallab Lochan Das has secured a lead of 1,441 votes.

Senior BJP leader Pijush Hazarika has opened up a significant margin in Jagiroad, leading by 5,300 votes, while Bikram Chandra Deka is ahead in Tangla by 2,450 votes. In Golaghat, Ajanta Neog is also in front with a lead of 976 votes.

On the other hand, the Congress has registered notable gains in select constituencies. Rujumoni Talukdar is leading in Mangaldai by 6,107 votes, and Jakir Hussain Sikdar has taken a lead of 5,804 votes in Pakabetbari.
