Eight New Co-Districts Become Functional Across Assam, Total Rises to 57


 

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has notified eight more co-districts as functional with immediate effect, taking the total number of functional co-districts in the state to 57.

The notification was issued following the approval of the state Cabinet at its meeting held on August 18, in the interest of public service.

The newly functional co-districts are Kamalpur in Kamrup, Barhampur in Nagaon, Rongnadi in Lakhimpur, Sissibargaon in Dhemaji, Chabua-Lahowal in Dibrugarh, Khumtai in Golaghat, and Katigorah and Barkhola in Cachar.

These have been added to the 49 co-districts that were already operational following earlier notifications issued in September 2024 and May 2025.

The notification also stated that the headquarters of the eight newly functional co-districts will be identified and finalised by the concerned District Commissioners in consultation with the respective Guardian Ministers.
