Fake Currency Key Accused Injured In Guwahati Police Firing While Attempting To Flee


 

GUWAHATI: Ajay Biswakarma, one of the key accused in the recent fake Indian currency note (FICN) racket in Guwahati, was injured in a police encounter after he attempted to flee from police custody.

"During interrogation, he revealed about a fake  currency printing machine in Kalakhetra area. Our investigating team took him to the location last night. He attempted to flee from the police custody. Soon after we opened couple of blank rounds to stop him from fleeing. Then we had to fire two rounds on his legs to prevent him from fleeing. One of the fires hit him on his leg," DCP East TR Pegu said.

He was admitted to a hospital, DCP East said the media, adding that his health condition is stable now.

Biswakarma is among the five persons arrested in connection with the counterfeit currency racket unearthed by Dispur Police during operations conducted on June 30 and July 1. Police had earlier clarified that counterfeit notes worth ₹13.46 lakh were seized in the case, dismissing rumours of a ₹100 crore fake currency haul.
