Sonapur Police arrested four persons from Sonitpur district in connection with an alleged land-registration scam in which a 70-year-old man was cheated of ₹17,260 by a person posing as a Circle Office employee.

The victim, a resident of Kachutoli, was allegedly duped over a month after the accused collected money on the pretext of facilitating land registration work.
The fraud came to light when the victim visited the Sonapur Circle Office and found that no such employee was posted there, following which a complaint was lodged.
Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and traced the accused to Tezpur, where four persons were apprehended. The accused have been identified as Riyajul Islam (22), Saiful Islam (26), Mojamil Haque (40) and Istaqul Hussain (21).
Legal action has been initiated against the accused, while further investigation is underway.
