Reacting to the results declared earlier, Gogoi said through social media that the party humbly accepted the mandate given by the people of Assam. He stated that the verdict clearly reflected the will of the electorate and that the Congress and its allies respected the democratic decision.

He also expressed gratitude to voters who supported candidates of the opposition alliance. “We sincerely thank all those voters who placed their trust in our candidates and extended their support,” he said, adding that public faith and encouragement would remain a source of strength for the party moving forward.

Congratulating the winning candidates across constituencies, Gogoi conveyed his best wishes and expressed hope that they would work diligently to fulfil the aspirations of the people. He emphasised that governance must prioritise development, peace and prosperity in the State.

Addressing the party’s performance, the APCC chief admitted the setback and said the Congress would undertake introspection to understand the reasons behind the defeat. He noted that the party would use the experience to strengthen its organisation and approach in the days ahead.

Gogoi also accepted the verdict of voters in Jorhat, stating that he respected their decision with humility. He affirmed that the Congress would discharge its duties as a responsible opposition, aligning itself with public interest while supporting constructive initiatives of the government.

“At the same time, we will firmly oppose any policies that are against the interests of the people,” he said, underlining the party’s commitment to safeguarding public rights and welfare.

The APCC president also extended appreciation to party workers and members of the opposition alliance, who, he said, worked tirelessly throughout the campaign. He praised their dedication, sacrifice and unity, particularly under challenging circumstances, describing their efforts as the foundation of the party’s strength.

“Your hard work and unwavering belief inspire us to move forward with courage and determination,” he said, expressing hope for continued support in the future.

Taking moral responsibility for the electoral defeat in his capacity as APCC president, Gogoi reiterated his commitment to the party’s ideology and principles. He said the Congress would remain steadfast in its struggle to protect the rights, dignity and interests of the people of Assam.

With the results now declared, attention is expected to turn towards the formation of the new government and the role of the opposition in holding it accountable. Gogoi’s statement signals the Congress party’s intent to remain engaged in the political process, both as a critic and as a constructive participant in governance.
