Gavaskar Proposes Guwahati Marathon During Assam Cricket Talks With CM


GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday held discussions with cricket legend Sunil Manohar Gavaskar on strengthening Assam's cricket ecosystem, while the former India captain proposed organising an international marathon in Guwahati on the lines of the Tokyo Marathon. The CM said the state government would examine the proposal.

The meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan also focused on the evolution of cricket across the red-ball and white-ball formats and the roadmap for further strengthening the sport in Assam. CM Sarma said Gavaskar's experience and insights would serve as a guiding force in the government's efforts to nurture quality cricketing talent and further develop the sport in the state.

Gavaskar, one of India's greatest opening batters who was renowned for his mastery against some of the world's fiercest fast bowlers, also discussed the glorious moments of Indian cricket with the Chief Minister. 

CM Sarma also recalled his childhood memories of watching Gavaskar's innings. BCCI Secretary Debajit Saikia and Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr K K Dwivedi were present during the meeting.
