In a post shared on X, GMC said the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to reclaim public spaces, improve accessibility, and maintain a cleaner, more organised urban environment.

Speaking on the drive, the local GMC ward councillor said the civic body regularly receives complaints from local residents, particularly elderly people, who face difficulty navigating the encroached stretch. "We are determined to resolve public issues for the residents and commuters," the councillor said.

The eviction drive comes amid GMC's continued push to clear unauthorised structures from key road stretches across the city, with officials stating that such encroachments often lead to traffic bottlenecks and pose safety concerns for pedestrians and commuters, especially during peak hours.
