GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has suspended two personnel and sought withdrawal of the attachment of a junior engineer over alleged dereliction of duty during Ambubachi Mahayog 2026.

According to official orders, Abul Hussain, R/M, GMC, and Pradip Sarma, Assistant Executive Engineer, GMC, have been placed under suspension with immediate effect pending formal departmental proceedings.
The orders stated that serious dereliction of duty was reported against both officials during Ambubachi duty and that sanitation and cleanliness conditions in the areas under their supervision were found to be highly unsatisfactory.
In the case of Pradip Sarma, the order additionally stated that he was found absent from his assigned duty on June 24 during the morning visit of the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs along with other senior officials.
Both suspension orders were issued under Rule 6(1)(a) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964 and other applicable service rules.
During the suspension period, Hussain will remain attached under headquarters at Guwahati, while Sarma will remain attached to the GMC Head Office at Betkuchi, Guwahati. Both have been directed not to leave headquarters without prior permission of the competent authority and will be entitled to subsistence allowance as admissible under the rules.
Separately, GMC has written to the Secretary of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department seeking withdrawal of the attachment of Sivasish Borah, Junior Engineer, P&RD Department, from the corporation.
According to the communication, Borah had been assigned duty for monitoring sanitation activities and labour management at Bangshi Bagan Control Room during Ambubachi Mahayog 2026. The letter stated that he was absent from his assigned duty during the visit of the Minister, Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, on June 24.
The communication further stated that Borah’s overall performance during his attachment with GMC had not been found satisfactory and requested withdrawal of his attachment at the earliest, along with initiation of disciplinary action as per applicable rules.
